Computers And Such

With the oncoming end of support for windows 10, we are preparing instead for switching to linux. Windows 10 is already bad and filled with bloated spyware, 11 is just so much worse.

We have tried it before but that dinosaur of a laptop is pretty bricked now (unrelated hardware issues that would be more expensive to fix than just buying a new-refurbished laptop). Our experience with it was super positive though.

Weve heard mixed stuff about mint 22 (both that its very stable and very buggy) so we are debating if we want to re-burn our iso flash drive with a newer version or not for that yet.

Currently trying to cut down on all the WIP documents we have- made some headway here and there. Maybe something new will be posted to the website soon- depends on how fast we finish stuff.

Still have to make more DW Icons, also!

The holiday hellzone is now past and we have access to desktop again. Whew!

Really dislike this time of year- not just for the dark and cold that happens- but for all the drama and holiday stress. The holidays always feel like something to be performed for others and not something we truly enjoy overmuch- its never anything *we* want to do, always whats expected because otherwise it will upset people we are dependent on for survival but do not overly like on account of The Horrors. Then its interspersed with all the bad decisions and mindfuck drama that always happens around all these people.

Its even worse because of the impending Political Situation returning to the whitehouse. We worry about how this will set back our Get The Fuck Out and transition plan. What kind of shit that this administration will enact that will make it harder for us to survive on our own- much less get hrt and other things like we want to.

Weve been doing a lot of reading to stave off the despair with a firm dose of escapism, but jeez. This time of year has very few upsides.

Now that its over though and things are getting brighter, we can focus on stuff we like to do; like creating things. Also things we need to do to help make life run.

Its the winter solstice, which means things will be getting sunnier from here on out! Huzzah!

Got a DW paid account for a year before the price change; if we like it/find it useful we will continue it. Been busy, reading, writing, doing updates to the website. Gotta get some more icons situated for us so we have a few emotions each and some general ones.

In terms of housekeeping- we will probably do tags for website updates, life updates, housekeeping, and DW original posts.
Backtagging will be a nightmare but we will probably maybe get to it eventually.


In other life news; fell down the star wars hole for a bit. Have Thoughts about story structure and what does and doesnt work and how fans are bad at recognizing when its time to recognize a feature of the world is best examined from an out of universe perspective and that this should be taken into account when discussing what facts are true about a setting/character/world/etc. Debating about posting them here or not.

Again took awhile to update despite best efforts.
This time of year is very busy and it always feels like if we have nothing of value to post then its not worth just posting whatever to update.
We've posted some to the Fictionkind DW- but what with being away from desktop a lot due to the holiday season its just hard to get much done.
Mobile works but Oof is it hard on the wrists to type.

Been reading a lot of fanfic lately because its low spoon intensive. STILL have video games to finish.

Got a lot of stuff in the works but actually working on it is hard when there is so much to do at the moment.

We were originally going to finish workshopping and implementing the tag system we wanted to be using, but realized that it was taking way too long and are just gonna post without doing that first so it doesnt become many months of radio scilence as dreamwidth keeps going on the backburner.

Currently thinking on a series of subject matter tags like 'life' (irl stuff), 'housekeeping' (DW updates), 'essay', 'website update', etc. Just have to. Backedit everything...

So life updates- FINALLY got a sleep study referral, yay! Unfortunately the consultation is all the way in April. Less yay! But at least we have it now, so thats something.

We also got another blood test and WERE a little low in vitamin D, which we got vitamin gummies for that dont taste horrible for as we are very unlikely to be able to fit in enough foods that contain it in our diet when we have to bow to the tastes of other people in the house for shared meals and dont like tuna or salmon that isnt landlocked. Will see if that brings our levels up Eventually.

Currently learning crochet some. Its going. Good mindless hands hobby. Might keep up with it, might not. Not all of us are on board with it.
